Women's Swimming and Diving Places Ninth at NCAA Championships

ATHENS, Ga. - The 13th-ranked Northwestern women's swimming and diving team finished ninth at the NCAA Championships that concluded tonight at Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga. It was the highest team finish in school history. The Wildcats finished with 145 points, just two behind eighth-place Florida. Georgia, the host school, won the title.
Courtney Allen started the day's scoring by finishing sixth in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 49.38. Allen's morning qualifying time of 49.11 was a school record until she posted a 49.02 on the opening leg of the 400 freestyle relay.
Amy Balcerzak earned All-America honors in the 200 breaststroke for the third consecutive season as she finished eighth in 2:13.64.
The Wildcat 400 freestyle relay team of Allen, Allyson Bowman, Kelly Igoe and Dominique Diezi finished the meet strong, finishing eighth in a time of 3:20.75. The Wildcats finished in the top nine in all four relays.
