The 1999 Northwestern women's fencing team capped off perhaps the best season in its history by tying for 19th place at the NCAA Championships. Freshman Kristen Dorf won seven of 23 matches in the foil to finish in 18th place individually at the meet. Junior Meghan Gaseor's seven epe wins earned her the No. 20 spot nationally in her weapon. Freshman Jen Greenebaum, who finished the season as the region's seventh-best epe competitor, narrowly missed qualifying for the meet. Both Gaseor and Dorf were competing in their first NCAA Championships.

The Wildcats finished the dual meet season with a 24-5 record, their best ever. The season included a 12-4 upset win over Notre Dame, who finished No. 2 at the NCAA Championships and whom Northwestern had not beaten since 1985. NU finished undefeated as a team in three different meets - the Wellesley Duals Jan. 30, the MIT Duals Jan. 31 and the Lawrence Duals Feb. 20.

Following the regular season, the 'Cats finished in second place, behind only Notre Dame, at the Midwest Fencing Conference Team Championships. At the Midwest Regionals the following weekend, eight Wildcats finished among the top 10 in their weapon, including Carly Wells, who took first with a perfect 11-0 record in the sabre.

Wells finished the year 46-2 in the sabre. Overall, Northwestern was 153-66 in the exhibition weapon. Dorf had the team's best foil record at 103-38, while the Wildcats were 358-188 overall. Greenebaum was 90-31 for the team's best epe record, while the team was 334-239 overall.
