Patten Gymnasium is one of the longest-serving facilities for Northwestern Athletics. The site of the very first NCAA Men's Basketball Championships, Patten Gymnasium now offers spacious locker room and practice accommodations for the Northwestern Women's Fencing team. As many as 12 strips can simultaneously host bouts on on a surface just steps away from the team's locker room. Also, a sports medicine facility is located adjacent to the locker room area and the Wildcat fencing armory is located on the second floor at Patten Gym.
Conveniently located on the north end of the Northwestern campus, Patten is the site of both the USFA Burton Open and the USFA Remenyik Open, and has hosted many larger events including the Illinois Junior Olympic Championships and the Midwest Regional Championships. The Wildcats also host one or two dual meet weekends each season at Patten Gymnasium, which annually attracts many nationally-ranked teams.
