NU Competes in Jr. Olympic Fencing Championships

CHATANOOGA, Tenn. - Northwestern placed two top ten individual finishers at the Junior Olympic Fencing Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn. The competition was open to qualifiers age 20 and under, and matches did not count toward NU team season statistics.

Freshman Jennifer Greenebaum (Mendham, N.J./Pingrey School) finished eighth out of 107 competitors in the junior women's epe, while freshman Kristen Dorf (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) took eighth out of 122 in the junior women's foil. Freshman Maggie Kebrdle (South Bend, Ind./St. Joseph's) finished in a tie for 58th in the foil, finally defeated by the weapon's eventual champion.

In the sabre, sophomore Carly Wells (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey) finished 28th out of 68 competitors.

Freshman epeist Margaret Ruf (Pewaukee, Wis./Catholic Memorial) qualified for the championships but did not compete.
