EVANSTON, Ill. - Sophomore forward Lindsay Wright (St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada) scored a goal with just under four minutes remaining in the second half to lift the Northwestern field hockey team to a 2-1 season-opening win over Wake Forest at the Big Ten-ACC Challenge in St. Louis. NU improves to 1-0 on the season while Wake Forest drops to 0-1.

After the Demon Deacons took a 1-0 lead at intermission, NU evened the score as senior sweeper Shanel Gohsler (San Diego, Calif./Serra) scored off a penalty corner. The game was played primarily in the midfield, but Wright came through with the game-winner late in the match for Northwestern.

The 'Cats outshot Wake Forest 11-6, although the Demon Deacons had six penalty corners to NUs four. Wildcat goalkeeper Jessica Yates (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) tallied four saves in the win. NU concludes the Big Ten-ACC Challenge on Monday afternoon when they face top-ranked Virginia at noon.
