EVANSTON, Ill. -Penn State senior midfielder Sonja Volla scored twice as the fifth-ranked Nittany Lions held off a stingy Northwestern squad, 2-0. Volla's first goal came on a penalty corner midway through the first period. She added a second goal early in the second half.
The match was played primarily in the Penn State offensive end, as the Lady Lions outshot Northwestern, 15-5. Northwestern goalies Schoen Liebert and Jess Yates made several key saves to keep the game close. The Wildcat duo made 10 stops in the match while PSU goalie Jamie Smith was forced to make only five saves in the win.
