15th-ranked Kent State used two first half goals to hold off Northwestern in the Wildcats' home opener, 3-1. The Golden Flashes opened the scoring with two goals in the first half, the second by freshman Leontien Plugge with 6:40 left in the period. The Wildcats answered with a goal two minutes later. Starting from their own goal, the 'Cats used crisp passes to advance the ball. NU freshman Lisa Comrie (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) scored her first collegiate goal to cut the gap to 2-1 at intermission. NU controlled the play throughout the entire second period, earning eight penalty corners. KSU added a goal late in the second half, after the Wildcats had pulled the goalkeeper in favor of an 11th attacker, for a 3-1 decision.

Kent State improves to 2-1 while NU falls to 1-2 on the season. The Wildcats battle the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Lakeside Field.
