Field Hockey Falls at Sixth-Ranked Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Penn State outshot Northwestern, 27-3, as the sixth-ranked Lady Lions defeated NU on Sunday afternoon, 6-1. Penn State is now 6-2, 2-0 Big Ten, while NU drops to 4-6, 0-2 Big Ten.
The Lady Lions got on the board less than three minutes into the game, and held a 2-0 lead at intermission. Penn State posted two more goals before goalkeeper Jess Yates, who had already made 13 saves during the match for NU, was lifted in favor of Scheon Liebert. The Lions made the score 6-0 before Wildcat freshman Lisa Comrie scored off a penalty corner as time expired to make the final, 6-1. Penn State held an 18-4 overall edge in penalty corners.
The Wildcats return home next weekend to Lakeside Field. On Fri., Oct. 2, NU hosts Michigan State at 4 p.m. The 'Cats host eighth-ranked Michigan on Sun., Oct. 4, at noon. Next weekend is "Women in Sports Weekend" at Northwestern, with a special $5 pass giving fans admittance to the two field hockey, two volleyball and lone Wildcat women's soccer match during the weekend.
