EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern senior forward Wendy DeFord (Chula Vista, Calif./Hilltop) had a goal and an assist as the Wildcats defeated the Miami Redhawks, 2-1. NU recorded both of its goals in the opening period. DeFord found the back of the cage with 16:51 left. Wildcat freshman Nicole Smith (Warnbro, Western Australia) recorded her first collegiate goal off a penalty corner for a 2-0 Northwestern lead. The Redhawks controlled play throughout much of the second half, but managed just one goal midway through the period. NU senior goalkeeper Schoen Liebert (Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) made seven saves in the victory.
