Emily Gilley Shoots 75 in Round One of NCAA Regionals

EVANSTON, Ill. - Freshman women's golfer Emily Gilley (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) is among a 13-player group tied a three-over-par 75 after the opening round of the NCAA East Regional in Blythewood, S.C.
Play was suspended due to darkness on Thursday with 24 golfers still on the course. Round one was completed on Friday morning prior to the start of round two.
Penn State's Laura Hammond leads the pack at three-under-par 69. Among the 26 Big Ten players competing, Gilley's 75 ranks as the third-best opening round score, behind Hammond and Ohio State's Natalie Mosher (73). OSU's Amber Amstutz, MSU's Emily Bastel and Indiana's Theresa McDermott also carded an opening-round 75.
Gilley's score of 75 is her second-best of the season and her lowest since shooting 75 at the GTE MO-morial on Feb. 22. Her season-best of 74 came at the Big Ten-Big 12 Shootout on Oct. 12.
Gilley is scheduled to tee off in round two at 1:50 p.m. EDT. She is part of a four-some with Central Florida's Line Berg, Vanderbilt's Mallory Crosland and Alabama's Sarah Johnston.
