Emily Gilley Earns Berth to NCAA Women's Golf Regionals

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern freshman Emily Gilley (Flossmoor, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) has earned one of seven at-large berths to the NCAA Women's Golf East Regionals, scheduled for May 6-8 in Blythewood, S.C. Gilley becomes the first player in the seven-year history of the Northwestern women's golf program to participate in NCAA Regional competition.
"Emily has earned the sole berth from our district into the NCAA Women's Golf East Regional," said head coach Chris Regenberg. "Emily is one of the most tenacious, hardest-working collegiate golfers I have ever encountered. She is an outstanding, disciplined player who will undoubtedly represent Northwestern, the midwest district and the Big Ten Conference very well."
In 10 tournaments this season, Gilley averaged 78.68 strokes per round. She has finished in the top 20 at nine of those 10 events, including six top-10 finishes. Gilley recorded her best finish at the Bonita Bay Invitational on Oct. 23-24, where she tied for third place at seven-over-par 151 (75-76).
The University of South Carolina will host the NCAA East Regional on Thu.-Sat., May 6-8, at The University Club (par 72-5,996 yards) in Blythewood, S.C. A total of 19 teams, as well as seven individuals not on those teams, have qualified for Regionals. The format calls for one round each of the three days with the top eight teams, plus the top two individuals not on those teams, advancing to the NCAA Championships, scheduled for May 19-22 in Tulsa, Okla.
Gilley's complete 1998-99 season results appear below. The Wildcats compete this weekend (April 30-May 2) at the Big Ten Conference Championships in West Lafayette, Ind., prior to the NCAA Regionals.
