EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern's Frank Lawson scored in the 63rd minute to give the Wildcats a 1-0 win over Michigan State in Big Ten men's soccer action Thursday afternoon on Lakeside Field.

The win was the third in a row for the 'Cats, the fourth in five matches, and put their final regular-season record at 5-13. In addition, Northwestern finished 2-3 in the Big Ten and figures to be the fourth seed for next weekend's conference tournament.

Michigan State fell to 9-7-1 (1-4 Big Ten).

Lawson notched his fourth goal of the season at the 62:46 mark, when he took a cross from Trevor Nelson and potted the shot past MSU goalkeeper T.J. Lieckfelt. Jun Kim was also credited with an assist.

NU goalkeeper Matt Keeler took it from there, recording five saves to pick up the shutout. On the day, Michigan State outshot the Wildcats, 13-8, in a spirited match that saw both teams lose players to cards.
