Women's Volleyball Downs Purdue, 3-2

EVANSTON, Ill. - Overcoming a 2-1 deficit, the Northwestern women's volleyball team closed out the road portion of the 1999 schedule with a stunning, 3-2 victory over Purdue Saturday night in West Lafayette, Ind. Game scores were 8-15, 15-12, 13-15, 15-5, 15-11.

The Wildcats were actually down twice in the match, dropping the first and third games, but came back to earn their second Big Ten win of the season. Overall, NU is now 4-24 (2-16 Big Ten) while the Boilermakers fell to 15-12 (7-11 Big Ten).

Jennifer Zagorski had another double-double, her second of the weekend and 13th of the season. The senior had 14 kills and put together an astounding .545 hitting percentage for the night (14 kills, 2 errors, 22 attempts) while also garnering 17 digs. Carmen Burbach also had a double-double, with 15 kills and 17 digs. Other players who had 10 or more kills included Leah Ackerman (15), Kitty Owen (12) and Sara Ballog (10). Kelli Meyer had 57 assists.

For Purdue, Aneska Arosarena had 19 kills and 12 digs, while Julie Doud added 17 kills and 11 digs and Sarah Emke chipped in with 15 kills.

Northwestern is home next weekend for the final two games of the 1999 campaign. On Friday, the 'Cats host Michigan at 7 p.m., and on Saturday Michigan State comes to town for a 7 p.m. start. Both matches will take place in Welsh-Ryan Arena.
