Northwestern Harriers Roll to Lakefront Invitational Title

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern University women?s cross country team rolled to its third win in four meets this fall, defeating 39 other teams handily to win the Lakefront Invitational hosted by the University of Loyola-Chicago.
Despite the absence of top runner Cherisse Lancaster, the Wildcats scored 39 points to defeat second-place Eastern Kentucky by 66. Third place was taken by St. Olfa College (120 points), while Ball State was fourth with 150 points.
The race was won by the University of Chicago?s Rhaina Echols in 17:43, but Northwestern followed with four of its five scorers in the top 10 after that. Mary Beth Ellis was second across the finish line, six seconds behind Echols, while Jennifer Anderson was fourth overall in 18:11. Karen Rogers was sixth (18:25), Nicole Kuznia was eighth (18:29), and Rachel Evjen rounded out the Wildcat scoring in 19th (18:50).
The Wildcats will race again each of the next two Fridays, taking part in the Purdue Invitational at West Lafayette, Ind. next week and the South Florida Invitational in Tampa the week after that.
