Matt Eliason graduated as Northwestern’s all-time leader in goals (33) and points (82), capping a career that saw him earn three All-Big Ten awards and a 2008 Top Drawer Soccer All-America second-team award.
Eliason began his career by starting all 20 NU matches as a true freshman, ranking second on the team with 16 points and five goals. He emerged as a national talent in his sophomore campaign, earning first-team All-Big Ten and second-team All-Region and All-America awards thanks to a 12-goal, 25-point season that ended with a run to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals.
In 2009, Eliason repeated as an All-Big Ten first-team choice. He led the Big Ten with 13 goals, six game-winning goals and 29 points. This performance led to him being a Hermann Trophy and Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award candidate in 2010.
Eliason also was a powerhouse in the classroom, earning Academic All-Big Ten, Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
Following graduation, Eliason began a career with GE Capital before finding international fame in 2013 with a bicycle goal as part of the Messi & Friends Tour at Soldier Field. The video, which has been viewed more than 3.2 million times, led to a professional contract with a club in Iceland.
