Mariya Moore is set to begin her first season as an assistant coach with the Northwestern University women's basketball program in 2026-27. Moore, a former standout at both Louisville and USC, spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Georgetown University prior to joining the Wildcats.

“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Mariya Moore to our Wildcat Basketball program,” Northwestern head women's basketball coach Carla Berube said. “From the moment we connected, it was clear that she embodies everything we value – integrity, competitiveness, and a deep commitment to the student-athlete experience. Mariya has a tremendous basketball mind, shaped not only by her coaching experience at Georgetown University but also by her perspective as a high-level player, and that combination allows her to teach the game in a way that truly resonates.”

“First and foremost, I thank God for this incredible opportunity,” Moore stated. “I’m truly honored and excited to join Northwestern Women’s Basketball and to work alongside Coach Berube, who is a proven leader and one of the most respected coaches in our game. I can’t wait to help continue building a culture of excellence here and pour into our student-athletes every day.”

Moore was part of a staff that guided the Hoyas to a historic 2023-24 season in which Georgetown finished 23-12 (9-9 BIG EAST), the program’s first 20-win campaign in over a decade. The Hoyas advanced to the championship game of the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time in program history en route to earning a bid to the inaugural Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT).

During her time in the nation’s capital, Moore played a vital role in the recruitment and development of four All-BIG EAST Conference selections, a quartet that included league Defensive Player of the Year (Kelsey Ransom in 2024) and Sixth Woman of the Year (Brianna Scott in 2024).

Moore began her coaching career at Saint Mary’s College in Moraga, Calif., where she was part of a staff that led the Gaels to the 2022 Women’s Basketball Invitational (WBI) title. Across her two seasons in the Golden State, Saint Mary’s picked up 31 victories and received six All-West Coast Conference (WCC) nods. Following the 2022-23 season, Moore was named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s (WBCA) Thirty Under 30, which recognizes 30 up-and-coming women's basketball coaches aged 30 and under at all levels of the game.

“Mariya is someone who invests in people,” Berube continued. “She meets student-athletes where they are, challenges them, and helps them grow with confidence. Her energy, authenticity, and attention to detail will elevate everyone around her. Mariya is also an outstanding recruiter who understands what it takes to succeed in a conference as competitive as the Big Ten. She aligns perfectly with our vision for the future of Northwestern Women’s Basketball, and I’m confident she will make an immediate and lasting impact on our program.”

Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Moore enjoyed a decorated playing career during stints at Louisville and USC. As a Cardinal, Moore was a three-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) selection and earned WBCA Honorable Mention All-America distinction following a sophomore campaign in which she averaged 14.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.4 assists. She was also named to the Naismith Trophy Watch List on three occasions.

A native of Richmond, Calif., Moore returned closer to home following her junior season, joining USC for the 2018-19 campaign. She wrapped up her collegiate career by putting up 13.0 points per game for the Trojans en route to securing Honorable Mention All-Pac 12 honors.

A 2014 McDonald’s All-American during her time at Salesian High School, Moore also boasts experience on the international level with USA Basketball, winning gold medals with the Stars & Stripes at both the 2014 FIBA Americas U-18 Championship and the 2015 FIBA U-19 World Championship. She also earned a selection to the USA Women’s Basketball U-23 team trials.
