FAN SERVICES REPRESENTATIVES

Northwestern Athletics is looking for individuals who are able to provide exceptional customer service to all fans who visit our athletic facilities each year. The primary focus of a Fan Services Representative is to ensure that all guests attending our competitions and special events have the best experience possible.
 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  •        Welcome fans and educate on policies
  •        Answer questions
  •        Assist with guest issues
  •        Assist with ADA patrons
  •        Provide world-class customer service
  •        Provide additional support for event management

 
The Fan Services Team will work many events held on our athletic campuses. Such events may include: football, men’s and women’s basketball, commencements, tournaments and other events hosted by the Northwestern University Department of Athletics and Recreation.
 
Schedule: Varies. Most events will occur on evenings and weekends.
 
This is a paid, non-benefits eligible position. Pay rate starts at $15 per hour.

STUDENT/INTERN OPPORTUNITIES

 

NORTHWESTERN ATHLETIC COMMUNICATIONS STUDENT ASSISTANTS

Students assistants in the Northwestern Athletic Communications office are afforded the opportunity to earn hands-on experience in the public relations field while working in collegiate athletics. Individuals will be responsible for assisting the full-time staff in all aspects of publicity for the athletics department and the University's 19 varsity sports.

Student assistants are desired to assist in one or more of the following areas:
• Gameday media relations
• Feature story and game preview/recap writing
• Social Media
• Graphic design

Ability to work some night and weekend hours are necessary. Experience working with InDesign and Photoshop are preferred but not required.

BROADCAST OPERATIONS INTERNSHIPS
 
Position Title: Broadcast Operations – Video Production Intern

Gain experience in video production while working with the Emmy Award-winning Studio N team at Northwestern Athletics!  The Broadcast Operations – Video Production intern will plan, shoot and produce content for Northwestern’s video boards, social media channels and television shows.  This is an advanced internship position, tailored for someone with prior video production experience working towards a career in sports video.
 
Hours Required: Monday-Friday, with weekend and evening work required per NU home event schedules
 
Requirements:

  • Undergraduate or graduate student preferred
  • Prior experience in video production (shooting, editing, storytelling)
  • Knowledgeable in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, After Effects)
  • Able to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Working knowledge of a variety of sports
  • Graphic design and/or motion graphic design experience is a plus
 
Responsibilities:
  • Develop content plans and key storylines – may involve all 19 Northwestern sports, depending on the time of year
  • Shoot video at games and practices; edit content for recap and promotional purposes
  • Brainstorm and produce new and creative concepts for video
  • Assist with equipment set-up, operation and tear down for green screen and other production shoots
  • Label and archive content following shoots and games
  • Assist Broadcast Operations staff with various tasks
  • Work in control room for some home events

  • Develop and create content for video boards at seven venues that span 11 of Northwestern’s varsity sports
  • Load content into playback servers and help set up equipment to prepare for game day
  • Operate control room equipment (playback, graphics, replay, audio and/or ribbon board controls) during home events
  • Partner with marketing and sponsorship departments to brainstorm and produce new and creative concepts for video
  • Assist in teaching and supervision of student workers on various positions within the control room
  • Label and archive content following games
  • Assist Broadcast Operations staff with various tasks

ATHLETICS COMMUNITY RELATIONS DEPARTMENT

Community Relations Internship

The Northwestern University Athletic Department hosts internship positions each quarter within the Community Relations Department. The community relations intern will receive a comprehensive overview of all aspects of a collegiate athletic department including student-athlete community outreach, ticket and memorabilia donations, city relations, sports marketing and game-day operations. Internships are unpaid positions and are open to all undergraduate and graduate school students who need an internship to fulfill part of their curriculum. Internships can be completed both for school credit or as an unpaid position. Interns report to the Assistant Athletics Director, Community Relations, but will work closely with all NU marketing and communications staff.

The internship schedule for upcoming quarters is as follows:

NORTHWESTERN MARKETING INTERNSHIPS

The Northwestern University Athletic Department hosts unpaid internship positions each quarter within the Marketing department that are available to aspiring sports business professionals. Through hours worked in-office and at home Northwestern Athletics events, Marketing Interns receive a comprehensive overview of all aspects of collegiate marketing including gameday operations, in-game promotions, event planning, ticket sales and others. Marketing Interns are also able to learn from business professionals across various departments to develop a robust knowledge of collegiate athletics and career opportunities within the industry.

Internships are available for each quarter with flexible start and end dates. The quarterly schedule is as follows:

Fall: late August - late December
Winter: late December - early March
Spring: early March - late May
Summer: late May - August

NORTHWESTERN MARKETING GRAPHIC DESIGN INTERNSHIP

The Northwestern University Athletic Department hosts internship positions each quarter. All internships are unpaid but may be used for college credit. The graphic design intern will have the opportunity to create collateral, digital advertising and more for all 19 Northwestern teams. Candidates must have strong design and concept skills with a solid understanding of the athletics world. The intern will report to the Director of Marketing.

Hours Required: 15-20 hours per week; Monday-Friday - some weekend and evening work may be required, as needed for NU home events.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Undergraduate or graduate student preferred
  • Proficiency in design tools including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work in a team setting
  • Displays attention to detail
  • Receptive to feedback and willing to learn

Responsibilities:
  • Contributes to marketing and advertising campaigns to be delivered through different channels including, but not limited to, print, web, email, digital and video formats.
  • Assists with creation of collateral including flyers, signage, schedules, print advertisements, splash pages, etc. while following brand guidelines.
  • Develops cohesive design solutions for both print and web applications.
  • Assists with ad-hoc projects through the Northwestern marketing department

NORTHWESTERN SPORTS MARKETING ASSOCIATION

The Northwestern Sports Marketing Association (NSMA) is an opportunity for aspiring Chicagoland sports business professionals (students and non-students) with an interest in the sports marketing and promotions field. As a member, you would be assisting the Northwestern Athletics Marketing department in hosting various home sporting events and special events. Members have the opportunity to work football and men's basketball home games as well as various Olympic sports throughout the year. Additionally, members can benefit from hands-on experience and premium networking opportunities.

NORTHWESTERN COMPLIANCE DEPARTMENT VOLUNTEER COMPLIANCE INTERN

The Northwestern University Athletics Compliance Office has volunteer opportunities available for two part-time compliance interns interested in gaining hands-on experience in intercollegiate athletics compliance. Interns will assist the athletics compliance office staff with working to ensure that Northwestern University's athletics department operates in full accordance with all NCAA, Big Ten Conference, and University rules. The opportunity is designed for recent graduates or current graduate students who aim to work in intercollegiate athletics. Candidates must be able to work a minimum of 8 hours per week and may be asked to contribute with weekend or evening work, where applicable. NORTHWESTERN ATHLETIC EQUIPMENT SERVICE DEPARTMENT OPPORTUNITIES (Northwestern undergraduate and graduate students as well as aspiring athletic equipment professionals)

The Northwestern University Athletic Department has volunteer opportunities in the fall and winter for undergraduate and graduate students interested in obtaining athletic equipment experience. The Northwestern Athletic Equipment Service Department (NAESD) services the athletic apparel needs of all 19 intercollegiate sports programs as well as staff. The NAESD is seeking individuals who are self-starters and can work effectively in an independent and team environment. Individuals will receive an overview of all aspects of athletic equipment operations including gameday operations, inventory control, organization and other work as assigned.
