Chick Evans (Honorary Inductee)

One of the most famous golfers in history, Evans played only his freshman season of 1912 for the Wildcats. He was forced to leave school prior to his sophomore year for financial reasons. In 1916, he became only the third golfer in history to win the U.S. Amateur Championship and the U.S. Open. At the time of his induction, only 10 golfers had ever accomplished that feat. He qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championships a record 49 consecutive years.

However, his lasting legacy will forever be the Chick Evans Scholars Foundation. Founded in 1930, the foundation was established to ensure deserving caddies could attend college. Evans chose Northwestern as the first school to host Evans Scholars. At the time of his induction, 7, 100 students had attended college through Evans Scholarships.
