George Benson (Baseball, Basketball, Football, 1939-42)
George Benson was a top all-around performer at Northwestern, earning a total of nine letters in football, basketball and baseball. As a running back on the football team, he helped the Wildcats to back-to-back winning seasons in 1940-1941.
One of Benson's career highlights was a critical run that set up the only touchdown in a 6-3 victory over Ohio State, effectively dashing the Buckeyes' national title hopes in 1940. Benson was also a three-time letter-winner in both baseball and basketball from 1940-1942.
