Redshirt freshman quarterback Clayton Thorson (18) races down the field 42 yards for the Wildcats first touchdown of the season. Thorson finished with 173 yards of total offense in his first career start under center.

Northwestern alumni (B.S., Journalism, 1970; M.S. 1971) and author of A Song of Ice and Fire, which HBO later adapted for its dramatic series entitled Game of Thrones, was recognized during the game with Willie the Wildcats and Vice President of Athletics and Recreation Jim Phillips.
