Team Notes
  • Northwestern suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, snapping a five-game winning streak to the start of the 2015 season.
    • The Wildcats were shutout for the first time since a 20-0 loss to Ohio State on Sept. 27, 2003.
    • The 38-point loss is the Wildcats largest margin of defeat since a 48-7 loss to Iowa on Nov. 11, 2014.
    • The ‘Cats are now 1-1 in Big Ten play and will play Iowa next Saturday, Oct. 17. The Hawkeyes defeated Illinois Saturday, 29-20, to improve to 6-0 (2-0 B1G).
       
  • The 96-yard kick return by Michigan’s Jehu Chesson to open the game was the first kick return for a touchdown allowed by the Wildcats since Oct. 11, 2014.
     
  • The Wildcats managed a season-low 38 yards rushing and were outgained on the ground for the first time this season. The ‘Cats are 18-37 under head coach Pat Fitzgerald when outgained rushing.
     
  • Northwestern entered the game ranked No. 1 in the country in scoring defense, allowing just 7.0 points per game. Michigan returned to the opening kickoff to equal the total and went on to score a opponent season-high 38 points (3 more than Northwestern had allowed all season).
     
  • Michigan posted its third consecutive shutout, becoming the first FBS program to accomplish the feat since 1980. 
Individual Notes
  • Senior DE Deonte Gibson finished with a career-high 2.5 sacks and moved into a tie for the 8th most in program history with 11 career sacks.
     
  • Despite being held to a season-low 25 yards rushing, sophomore RB Justin Jackson has led the Wildcats and has now done so in each of his first 18 career games.
     
  • Junior WR Austin Carr matched a career high with two receptions for 39 yards. Carr led all players with 19.5 yards per catch.
     
  • Senior WR Cameron Dickerson – who missed the first three games of the season due to injury – recorded his first two catches of the season for 22 yards Saturday.
     
  • Sophomore S Godwin Igwebuike led the Wildcats in tackles for the second-straight game with eight. Through two Big Ten games, Igwebuike has totaled 17 tackles (8.5/game).
     
  • Junior DE Ifeadi Odenigbo and redshirt freshman S Jared McGee each finished with a career-high four tackles.
     
  • Freshman DT Jordan Thompson also had a career-high four tackles.
