'Cats Fall in Series Opener at Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS – Northwestern fell 13-1 in seven innings in its series opener at Minnesota on Friday night at Siebert Field.
OF Jack Lausch picked up his third straight multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
Minnesota (24-17, 6-13 Big Ten) grabbed an early lead, pushing across one run in each of the first two innings to go ahead 2-0.
Northwestern (16-22-1, 5-14 Big Ten) got on the scoreboard in the top of the third when Lausch doubled to lead off the inning and came around to score on an RBI groundout by INF Noah Ruiz.
The Golden Gophers added three in the bottom of the third and eight in the bottom of the fifth en route to the run-rule victory.
Game two of the weekend series is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT on B1G+.
