OF Jack Lausch crushed his seventh homer of the season in the setback, bringing him even with OF Jackson Freeman, INF Ryan Kucherak and INF Owen McElfatrick for the team lead. Northwestern is the only team in the Big Ten to have four players with seven or more home runs.

Northwestern (13-18-1, 5-10 Big Ten) got on the board on an RBI single by C Jay Slater in the seventh and added another on an RBI groundout to make it 6-2. Lausch's solo shot in the bottom of the eighth trimmed the deficit to 6-3.
The Boilermakers added two more runs in the ninth to extend their lead to 8-3 and cap off the scoring.
In his first career start, RHP James Whitaker (2-2) allowed five runs, four earned, on six hits and two walks in 4.2 innings pitched.
Northwestern returns to action at Miller Park against UIC on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. CT.
