Women's Tennis Hosts Pair of Local Foes for Wildcat Duals

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern women's tennis will welcome local foes DePaul and Northern Illinois to Combe Tennis Center this weekend for an invitational tournament ahead of their 2026 dual season. The weekend will feature singles and doubles matches only, with no team scoring, as the participating programs tune up before their non-conference seasons.
For Northwestern, they will look to build on a fall tournament season that ended in a pair of national rankings. Following their runner-up finish at the ITA Midwest Regional, Mika Dagan Fruchtman and Neena Feldman enter the winter ranked No. 48 among doubles duos by the ITA. On the singles side, first-year Margot Phanthala - who was recently named a Big Ten Player to Watch - was ranked No. 39 by the ITA following a breakout first fall of collegiate action.
Phanthala is one of two first-years who will make their home debuts this weekend. Alongside her will be Marelie Raath, who also excelled in fall play, finishing with a 7-3 mark in singles action. Raath and Phanthala join six returning Wildcats on Head Coach Claire Pollard's roster this winter.
Northwestern's matches this weekend will be streamed on PlaySight (link to be updated when available), and results will be available online following each day's action. A full weekend schedule is available below.
Following the conclusion of tournament action, the 'Cats will officially open dual season next weekend on the road, when they head east for a trio of non-conference matches. First up will be VCU on Friday, January 16, with first serve scheduled for 9 a.m. CT.
