5-foot-9 guard featured on U14 and U18 Spain National Teams
EVANSTON, Ill. (July 7, 2025) – Northwestern University head women's basketball coach Joe McKeown announced the addition of Amparo López (Valencia, Spain/Maristas Colegio Sagrado Corazón Valencia) to his 2025-26 roster on Monday. López arrives in Evanston after most recently featuring for Valencia B.C. in her native Valencia, Spain.
"Our staff can't wait to get Amparo López on campus," McKeown said. "She is a true student of the game and plays with a maturity well beyond her years. Amparo is a combo guard, who can score at multiple levels. One thing that stood out to me is that she is all about winning, as evidenced by her success on both the regional and national levels in Spain. I could not be happier to welcome Amparo to our family!"
A four-year team captain, Lopez was active at both ends of the floor this past season for Las Taronjas, averaging 12.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.7 steals. The 5-foot-9 guard helped lead the club to four league titles, most recently in the U18 division of the Liga Femenina Challenge. Playing for the club's U14 side, Lopez was a member of the team that earned a runner-up finish at the Spanish U14 Championship.
Lopez's showing throughout her club career has garnered attention on the national scale, earning her appearances with both the U14 and U18 sides of the Spain Women's National Team. She has also been called up to the Valencian Regional Team at five different age levels.
The addition of Lopez brings Northwestern's incoming class to five, a quintet that also includes graduate transfer Tate Walters (Buford, Ga./Buford/Furman), graduate student Sammy White (Timonium, Md./Dulaney), redshirt senior DaiJa Turner (Fayetteville, N.C./Village Christian Academy/TCU), and first-year Angelina Hodgens (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph By-The-Sea).
