Recently graduated Wildcat to compete at Royal Portrush, July 17-20

EVANSTON, Ill. (June 28, 2025) – After recently wrapping up his time as a student-athlete, former Northwestern University men's golf standout Cameron Adam has earned a spot at the 153rd Open Championship at Royal Portrush, July 17-20.

Adam punched his ticket to golf's original major as the top performing amateur across three events during the month of June that feature as part of The Open Amateur Series.

The Edinburgh, Scotland native couldn't have scripted a better start to his road to Royal Portrush, winning a sudden-death playoff after finishing at 17-under-par to capture the prestigious St Andrews Links Trophy at the famed Old Course, site of Northwestern's victory this past fall at the St Andrews Links Collegiate.

Following The Amateur Championship at Royal St George's and Royal Cinque Ports, Adam turned his attention to the European Amateur Championship at the Vasatorp Golf Club, where he finished at one-under-par through 72 holes of action.  After carding an opening-round 75, Adam put together three straight rounds in red numbers, firing a second-round two-under-par 70 ahead of a one-under 71 during Friday's third round to successfully navigate the 54-hole cut, joining a group that also included incoming Northwestern first-year Monty Holcombe.  In Saturday's final round, the two-time All-Big Ten Conference honoree matched his third-round effort, carding another one-under 71 to conclude his stay on Sweden's southern coast and earn a share of ninth place.

Adam recently capped off a decorated four-year stay in Evanston with an outstanding senior campaign.  He appeared in all 30 rounds of action, closing the year with a 70.93 stroke average that ranks seventh on the program's single-season record board in the category.  After cementing Northwestern's aforementioned triumph at the St Andrew's Links Collegiate, Adam went on to earn his first collegiate victory at The Clerico, finishing play with a three-under 207 (67-70-70) en route to leading Northwestern to the team title at the event.

A First Team All-Big Ten Conference honoree this past season, Adam's 72.07 career stroke average sits fifth in Wildcat annals.

For only the third time in its history, Royal Portrush Golf Club will play host to The Open Championship.  Located in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, it served as the first course outside of Great Britain to host the storied event, staging The 80th Open Championship in 1951.  The Open Championship returned to Royal Portrush in 2019 for its 148th installment, as home favorite Shane Lowry laid claim to the Claret Jug.
