‘Cats to host 10 regular season contests at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium
EVANSTON, Ill. (June 26, 2025) – Led by fifth-year head coach Russell Payne, the Northwestern University men's soccer program announced its schedule for the 2025 season on Thursday. The 'Cats will host 10 regular season contests at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium as part of a 17-game slate that features clashes with six teams who played in last season's NCAA Tournament.
Following exhibition contests against IU Indianapolis (Aug. 9) and Northern Illinois (Aug. 15), Northwestern will officially open the 2025 campaign on August 21 when it entertains Eastern Illinois to begin a season-opening four-match homestand. After battling Air Force on August 24, a pair of local rivals will head north, as Loyola Chicago (Aug. 29) and UIC (Sept. 1) visit Evanston.
Payne's crew kicks off a three-game road swing at Xavier on September 6 before jetting west. Northwestern will raise the curtain on its Big Ten Conference slate when it battles UCLA on September 12 ahead of a non-conference tilt with UC Riverside (Sept. 15).
A September 19 matchup with Rutgers opens a stretch that sees the 'Cats play four of their next five games within the friendly confines of Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium. Following a trip to Maryland (Sept. 26), meetings with Washington (Sept. 29) and Michigan State (Oct. 11) bookend the Wildcats' non-conference finale against Evansville (Oct. 7).
The push for the postseason heats up as October continues. Northwestern will hit the road in back-to-back weeks, trekking to Penn State (Oct. 17) and Michigan (Oct. 24), respectively. A Halloween clash with traditional Big Ten power Indiana (Oct. 31) marks the Wildcats' penultimate home contest. After heading north to take on Wisconsin (Nov. 4) in its road finale, Northwestern will return home on November 7 to close the regular season against 2024 NCAA College Cup participant Ohio State, the reigning Big Ten regular season and tournament champion.
