Junior shatters month-old program record in the event
MADISON, Wis. (May 2, 2025) – For the second time in just under a month, Skye Ellis set a new program record in the 1,500m run, as Northwestern cross country closed the outdoor portion of its 2025 track schedule this evening at the Badger Challenge in Madison, Wis.
Out of Jan Juc, Australia, Ellis capped off an outstanding track campaign with another standout performance on a rainy evening in Wisconsin's state capital. The junior shaved four second off her month-old program record in the 1,500m run, posting a time of 4:19.71 en route to placing third overall.
Anna Hightower came away with a new personal best of her own running alongside Ellis in the opening heat of the 1,500m run, clocking in at 4:27.87 to earn a fourth-place finish.
Northwestern received impressive showings across the board to open the evening in the 5,000m run. Ava Earl (1st; 15:55:12), Holly Smith (2nd; 16:01.44), and Jackie Holman (3rd; 16:09.15), all of whom competed unattached, laid claim to the top three spots on the event leaderboard.
Mia Mraz took over eight seconds off her previous 5,000m run personal best, racing through in 16:51.04 to finish seventh. In just her second career appearance in the event, Kailey Zagst ran nearly 34 seconds faster than her debut effort, posting a time of 17:22.93 that saw her claim ninth. Audrey Bannister rounded out a trio of personal bests by Wildcats in the 5,000m run, as she came across in 18:02.34, a 14-second improvement from her previous top time, to land in 11th place.
