CARLSBAD, Calif. (May 16, 2025) – The Northwestern University Women's Golf team sits in eighth place following the first round of the NCAA Championship Finals today in Carlsbad, Calif.
The Wildcats closed the opening 18 holes of play on the North Course (par 72; 6,330 yards) at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa with a three-over-par 291. Vanderbilt (282) owns a two-shot lead over Oklahoma State (284), while Tennessee's Bailey Davis carded the top round of the day, shooting a five-under 67 to take the individual lead.
Northwestern, who played in the afternoon wave, was led by Dianna Lee, Ashley Yun, and Lauryn Nguyen, all of whom shot an even-par 72. The trio sits tied for 27th. Elise Lee finished at three-over and Hsin Tai Lin shot six-over.
The Finals consist of three days of stroke play, today through Sunday (54 holes), after which the top 15 teams and nine individuals not on an advancing team will be determined. That is followed by a final day of 18 holes of stroke play (Monday) to determine the top eight teams that will advance to match play as well as the 72-hole individual champion. The team national champion will be determined by a match-play format that will consist of quarterfinals and semifinals conducted on Tuesday, followed by the finals on Wednesday.
Northwestern has a quick turn, resuming action in Saturday's morning wave, with tee times for the 'Cats set to begin at 9:47 a.m. CT. NU will once again be paired with LSU and Virginia.
