Northwestern Drops Saturday Contest to Washington

EVANSTON, Ill. – Washington defeated Northwestern 14-4 (7 innings) on Saturday afternoon at Miller Park.
The Huskies (24-20, 13-7 Big Ten) jumped out to an early lead when 1B Casen Taggart led off the game with a solo homer. UW added another on an RBI double in the second to go ahead 2-0.
Northwestern (18-22, 8-12 Big Ten) got on the board in the bottom of the second when DH Trent Liolios tripled to lead off the frame and came around to score on an RBI groundout by C Bennett Markinson.
Washington added on with a pair of homers to score three in the third and four runs on four hits in the fourth to extend its lead to 9-1.
CF Jack Lausch hit his third homer of the season and first at Miller Park in the bottom of the fourth, a solo shot. The Chicago native notched his eighth multi-hit game of the season.

In the bottom of the seventh, 2B Jacob Hand scored Lausch on an RBI single, and 3B Owen McElfatrick plated 1B Tyler Ganus to trim the deficit, but the 'Cats were unable to muster anything more in the 14-4 loss.
RHP Jackson Thomas (4-3) earned the victory for UW, allowing two runs on five hits, walking two and fanning two.
RHP Sam Hliboki (2-3) is credited with the loss, surrendering nine runs, eight earned, on 10 hits, walking two, hitting one, and striking out four.
The series finale is set for Sunday at 1 p.m. CT on B1G+.
