Michigan State Pulls Away in Saturday Setback for Wildcats

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State's seven-run sixth inning broke open a pitchers' duel as the Spartans pulled away for a 10-0 win in eight innings on Saturday afternoon at Jeff Ishbia Field.
LHP Christian Forniss (1-1) was solid for the 'Cats (16-16, 7-7 Big Ten), retiring the first 10 batters of the game and allowing zero hits in his first 5.0 innings of work. After loading the bases in the bottom of the fifth, Forniss departed with a line of three runs on two hits, two walks, and three strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched.
LHP Joseph Dzierwa (6-1) earned the win for the Spartans, allowing just three hits and one walk, fanning eight in 7.0 shutout innings.
First pitch of Sunday's series finale is slated for 12:35 p.m. CT on B1G+. RHP Matthew Kouser is set to start for the Wildcats, with RHP Nolan Higgins on the rubber for the Spartans.
