PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Graduate student Trevor Chumbley earned the first All-American honors of his career on day two of the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships on Friday inside Wells Fargo Center. Chumbley will continue on in Session V on Saturday morning, looking to climb the podium at 157 lbs. Following his pair of upset victories on Thursday, Chumbley picked up right where he left off with his quarterfinal matchup on Friday afternoon. Faced with 12th-seeded Caleb Fish (Oklahoma State) in a rematch of their 2024 meeting at the CKLV Invitational, Chumbley staged a thrilling comeback to secure a 6-4 decision and lock in his spot on the NCAA podium. The deciding takedown came with less than 30 seconds left in the bout, sending Chumbley to the national semifinals in thrilling fashion.
Maxx Mayfield (165 lbs) also began his Friday with a victory, defeating No. 33 Chandler Amaker (Central Michigan) by 8-6 decision. His weekend would come to an end shortly after, however, as he dropped a heartbreaker in sudden victory to Virginia's Nick Hamilton.

At 197 pounds, Evan Bates bowed out Friday morning as well, falling to No. 18 Dillon Bechtold (Bucknell) by 4-1 decision.

Though No. 8 Joey Blaze (Purdue) edged Chumbley out in their Friday night meeting in the semifinal, Northwestern's 157-pounder can still finish as high as third place with a pair of wins on Saturday morning. He'll take on No. 7 Vinny Zerban (Northern Colorado) in the first of two matches that will determine his podium placement. Session V action begins at 10 a.m. CT.
