EVANSTON, Ill. - Neena Feldman has been named the Big Ten Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday. The award follows a 2-0 weekend for the sophomore, whose three-set singles victory provided match point in Northwestern's upset of No. 30 Kansas on the road over the weekend.
After falling behind the Jayhawks early, the 'Cats stormed back with a trio of singles wins to tie the score at three-all. With the match on the line, Feldman then won four straight games at No. 6 singles to close out a 6-3 third set and a 4-3 Wildcat victory.
That singles win was Feldman's second of the weekend after she took down her opponent in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, against No. 31 Vanderbilt on Friday. Feldman's pair of wins improved her singles record to a perfect 7-0 at the end of non-conference dual play.
Feldman is the second Wildcat to be named Player of the Week this year, but the first to earn the honor during dual season. Kiley Rabjohns previously accomplished the feat during fall tournament play. With Erica Jessel earning Freshman of the Week last Wednesday, Northwestern has now placed a player on the Big Ten's weekly awards list in back-to-back weeks.
Wildcat women's tennis will take this weekend off before beginning its conference schedule on the road the following week. The 'Cats will visit Wisconsin on Friday, March 7, then continue their road trip at Minnesota on Sunday, March 9.
