Northwestern ranked No. 1 in Midwest Region for first time in program history

EVANSTON, Ill. (September 16, 2024) – For the first time in program history, Northwestern has ascended to No. 1 in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Women's Midwest Regional Rankings, which were announced by the organization on Monday.

Sixth-year head coach Jill Miller's team was dominant last Friday in Champaign, Ill., outdistancing No. 19 Wisconsin by 23 points for the team title at the Big Ten Conference Preview.  All five members of the Wildcat top five set new 6k personal bests, a group led by the trio of Ava Earl (20:17.3), Holly Smith (20:20.8), and Ava Criniti (20:32.9) that finished third through fifth, respectively.

Northwestern finished in front of Oklahoma State for the top spot in this week's rankings.  Iowa State, Minnesota, and Bradley rounded out the top five.

Northwestern will be idle this week before heading to Madison, Wis. on Friday, September 27 for the Nuttycombe Invitational.
