Wildcats,
As we reflect on the past academic year, I am filled with pride and gratitude for the outstanding accomplishments of our athletics department. The 2023-24 season has been a testament to the dedication, talent, and hard work of our student-athletes, coaches, and support staff. Each member of our community has contributed to a remarkable year, making our department a beacon of excellence and sportsmanship.
During this past year, our athletics department has enjoyed unprecedented success. From seven conference titles – an historic number – to record-breaking performances and outstanding academic achievements, our student-athletes have truly excelled. In addition to our seven conference crowns, we are the only program in the Big Ten to win our football bowl game and qualify for the NCAA men's basketball tournament. Taking it one step further, Northwestern is one of only seven schools in the country to win a football bowl game and a men's March Madness game this year, joining Arizona, Clemson, Duke, Kansas, Oregon, and Tennessee.
This past weekend, our lacrosse team played with heart and determination in the national championship game. Although it did not go our way, their journey was nothing short of inspirational. Their resilience, teamwork, and selflessness have made us all proud, and they have set a high standard for future teams to aspire to. We celebrate their incredible season and look forward to what they will achieve in the future.
The collective efforts have not only brought us numerous trophies and accolades but also reinforced our commitment to fostering a culture of respect, integrity, service, and excellence. These moments of triumph and the challenges we have overcome defined our journey and set the stage for future successes.
Finally, I am honored to announce the final AD MVP award of the year. The recipients are two exemplary NUDAR teammates, Kwinn Kraus and Rhedt Roelandt. Their exceptional work in the broadcast operations department has been instrumental in our success this year. Kwinn and Rhedt have shown an unwavering commitment and innovative approach, significantly contributing to NUDAR's many achievements. We are incredibly fortunate to have such talented and hardworking individuals on our team, and we are grateful for their contributions.
I want to thank you all for your continued support of our athletics department. TOGETHER, we will continue to strive for excellence and build on the successes of this remarkable year!
God Bless and Go 'Cats!
Positively,
Dr. Gragg
