Northwestern posts eighth top-15 finish at national meet in program history

CARLSBAD, Calif. (May 21, 2024) – The Northwestern University women's golf team brought a wildly successful 2023-24 season to an end on Monday as it closed its stay at the 2024 NCAA Women's Golf Championships in Carlsbad, Calif.

The 'Cats finished as part of a tie for 11th place, alongside Florida State (287-302-300-293) and Texas (299-286-302-295), with a 72-hole team score of 1,182 (285-293-295-309).  This past week's performance marks the eighth top-15 finish in program history at the NCAA Championships, all of which have come under the guidance of head coach Emily Fletcher and assistant coach Beth Miller.

Ashley Yun capped off an outstanding debut campaign at Northwestern, picking up a top-20 finish as she tied for 19th with a four-over-par 292 (71-70-71-80).  Yun, who became the third straight Wildcat to be named Big Ten Freshman of the Year earlier in the month, shot at par or better in 18 of her 37 rounds this season and recorded five top-25 finishes.

Lauryn Nguyen successfully improved her score through all four days of her time at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa (par 72; 6,300 yards), closing out her week with an even-par round of 72 to finish tied for 39th at 296 (77-74-73-72).  A First Team All-Big Ten honoree, Nguyen enjoyed a dominant junior season, placing inside the top five at four events, a run highlighted by her first collegiate victory at the Windy City Collegiate Classic this past October.

Jiayi Wang (72-77-75-77=301) and Jieni Li (71-72-76-83=302) were separated by just a stroke on the individual leaderboard, sharing 58th and 62nd, respectively.  Wang closed the season with a flurry, picking up three top-20 finishes across the Wildcats' final five meets, while Li capped off her collegiate career with a second consecutive All-Big Ten selection.

First Team All Big-Ten pick Jennifer Cai shared 78th (71-81-78-80) in the final standings.  Cai, who played the back nine of her final collegiate round at one-under-par, placed inside the top 10 on a pair of occasions in 2023-24, securing her first career win at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate in early March.
