Swimming & Diving Welcomes Joe Bonk as Assistant Coach

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern University's Swimming and Diving program is thrilled to announce the addition of Joe Bonk to its coaching staff as the new assistant coach.
Bonk joins Northwestern following a successful tenure as an assistant swim coach at the University of Virginia, where he played a pivotal role in the UVA Women's team achieving victories at ACCs and NCAAs. Additionally, the UVA Men's team achieved impressive rankings, finishing 5th at ACCs and 17th at NCAAs during the recent season.
Before his time at UVA, Bonk served as the National Team Head Coach for the Wilton Wahoo team, guiding swimmers to YMCA national finals, junior national qualifications, and Connecticut state records from 2020 to 2023. Prior to that, he contributed to the coaching staff at Fairfield University and William Peace University.
Bonk's personal achievements include a notable collegiate career at North Carolina State University, where he graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor's degree in Sports and Fitness Administration/Management. As an athlete, Bonk was a three-time ACC Champion, NCAA runner-up, and three-time All-American. He also competed in the Olympic Trials in both 2012 and 2016.
