Penn State Tops Northwestern, 12-7

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Despite some early fireworks from the Wildcat offense, Northwestern couldn't keep up in a 12-7 loss at Penn State on Saturday, April 6.
Preston Knott gave Northwestern (10-17, 0-5 Big Ten) an early spark, going deep to right field in the first at bat of the game, putting the 'Cats in front 1-0 in the top of the first.

In the top of the second, Knott went yard again for a two-run home run, putting the Wildcats up 3-1.

Penn State responded with four in the fourth, two in the fifth, and two in the sixth to take a 9-4 lead. Grant Norris hit two home runs for Penn State, driving in four runs.
Northwestern responded in the top of the eighth, scoring a pair on a Trent Liolios triple. Liolios came around to score on an RBI groundout by Lorenzo Rios, trimming the deficit to two.
PSU re-extended its lead with a pair of RBI doubles by J.T. Marr and Bryce Molinaro, giving the Nittany Lions a 12-7 lead, which they held onto.
Kyle Potthoff (2-2) surrendered five runs on eight hits in four innings of work.
After a rocky start, Jaden Henline (3-0) settled in for the Nittany Lions, tossing four consecutive scoreless innings before departing in the eighth. Henline surrendered four runs on six hits, striking out one and walking one.
Game Notes
- Preston Knott's two home runs mark the second multi-homer game for the Wildcats in three games (Jackson Freeman, two HR vs. Nebraska on 3/31).
- Knott's three RBI are his most in a Wildcat uniform.
- Griffin Arnone went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a walk.
- Arnone recorded his third multi-hit game of the year.
