Cai Named Big Ten Women’s Golfer Of The Week

Senior earned first collegiate victory earlier in the week at Darius Rucker Intercollegiate
EVANSTON, Ill. (March 7, 2024) – Less than 24 hours removed from her first collegiate win, Northwestern University senior Jennifer Cai (Irvine, Calif./Sage Hill School) has been selected as the Big Ten Conference Women's Golfer of the Week, the league office announced on Thursday. This marks the first weekly league honor of her career.
Cai turned in a comprehensive 54-hole effort in pacing the attack for the Wildcats at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate earlier this week at Hilton Head Island, S.C. After carding an even-par round of 71 during Monday's opening round, Cai caught fire on Tuesday, putting up an 18-hole season-best three-under-par 68. The Irvine, Calif. product followed that up with a final-round two-under-par 69 on Tuesday, an effort highlighted by a pressure-packed putt on the 18th hole to claim a share of the individual crown with a five-under-par 208 (71-68-69).
Cai finished her three-day stay in The Palmetto State with 15 birdies across 54-holes of play, a total that saw her share the lead in the category with Mississippi State's Julia Lopez Ramirez. She has a team-best 15 rounds at par of better to her name this season.
Led by Cai's showing, Northwestern earned a runner-up finish in the team race, its fifth top-three showing as a team during the 2023-24 campaign.
Northwestern continues its spring slate at the PING/ASU Invitational, March 28-30, in Phoenix, Ariz.
