Northwestern Exchange Launches to Connect Wildcat Student-Athletes with NIL Opportunities

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern Athletics has partnered with INFLCR to create the Northwestern Exchange, a student-athlete Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) business registry, custom-designed for businesses, donors, alumni, and any other interested NIL parties wishing to connect with student-athletes. Businesses and individuals can search, filter and initiate conversations with Northwestern student-athletes to discuss and transact an NIL deal. The Northwestern Exchange is the latest in resources that Northwestern Athletics has invested in to support NU student-athletes and their exclusive NIL program, ICON.
After a business or individual registers for Northwestern Exchange, it will have access to a database of all current Northwestern student-athletes to match for promotional opportunities, including in-person appearances, social media posts, sports lessons and many other options. NIL marketing offers unique ways of promoting businesses and services directly to the Northwestern student population, and the Northwestern Exchange makes NIL marketing campaigns easy to execute.
"The Northwestern Exchange cuts through the complexity and uncertainty of NIL marketing and creates an easy way for businesses, alumni, and fans to work directly with NU student-athletes," said Northwestern General Manager for NIL Brad Bauer. "NIL deals are now easier and safer than ever before for all involved. This is a great way to reach Northwestern students and fans by partnering directly with our student-athletes."
Through NIL deals, Northwestern athletes have been directly involved with the local Chicago community. Eight Northwestern student-athletes were selected by Northbrook-based Power Plate, the Official Fitness Technology Partner of Northwestern, to be featured in an influencer marketing campaign showcasing their products. Portions of this campaign ran in-game during men's basketball games at Welsh-Ryan Arena and will be featured on the student-athlete's social media feeds this spring.
"We're proud to partner with Northwestern University to launch the Northwestern Exchange," said INFLCR General Manager Sean Kelly. "This collaboration underscores Northwestern's commitment to empowering every NU athlete to foster impactful connections within their local community, creating opportunities for new partnerships and NIL deals."
Women's basketball student-athlete Caileigh Walsh has partnered with Meez Meals, an Evanston-based food delivery service, to help promote their brand. Walsh created a series of influencer-style videos promoting Meez Meals kits and those videos are featured alongside in-game signage and announcements during women's basketball games. Both partnerships – Power Plate and Meez Meals – were secured by Northwestern Sports Properties, a division of Learfield.
Two hundred and seventy five (275) student-athletes from Northwestern's varsity sports are represented in the Northwestern NIL Store by Campus Ink, where anyone can buy officially licensed NIL merchandise, created originally by the artists and student-athletes. The store emphasizes an athletes-first mentality, making certain that athletes are paid when they receive merchandise orders.
