‘Cats tally five new personal bests

CHICAGO, Ill. (February 17, 2024) – Maddy Whitman and Fiona Lenth both surged to victory, highlighting an impressive afternoon for Northwestern cross country at the Margaret Bradley Invitational in Chicago, Ill.

Whitman spearheaded a dominant showing by the 'Cats in the mile run that saw Northwestern claim the top three spots on the final leaderboard.  The London, England native clocked a personal-best 4:56.60, shaving six seconds off her previous top time in the event, to take first overall.

Anna Hightower (5:00.64) and Jackie Holman (5:02.72) followed closely behind Whitman, placing second and third, respectively.

Lenth put an exclamation point on the afternoon for Northwestern in the 3,000m run.  Out of Portland, Ore., Lenth bested her month-old personal best, set at the Aurora Grand Prix, by just over a second, placing first as she raced through in 9:47.03.

Pippa Nuttall was hot on Lenth's heels, finishing just 17 one-hundredths of a second back of the junior as she came through in a personal-best 9:47.20 en route to a runner-up finish.

Adele Magaud took fifth in 10:07.77, while Whitney Currie came through two seconds back in sixth at 10:09.92.  Audrey Bannister rounded out a showing that saw Wildcats occupy five of the top seven positions on the event leaderboard, running a personal-best 10:19.31 to land seventh.

Northwestern will return to action in March when it begins the outdoor portion of its 2024 schedule.
