Wildcats Dominate the Glass in 73-64 Win at Loyola Chicago

CHICAGO (November 26, 2024)  – Taylor Williams recorded her 30th career double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds as Northwestern (2-3) downed Loyola Chicago (4-3) 73-64 at Gentile Arena in Rogers Park.

The Wildcats hauled in 21 offensive rebounds, their most since bringing down 22 rebounds against Iowa on March 4, 2022. Northwestern's 52 total rebounds are its most since grabbing 59 boards in a 92-86 overtime win over UIC on November 9, 2023.

How It Happened
Northwestern raced out to an early 6-2 lead, before Loyola used a 12-0 run to take a 14-6 advantage with 3:25 remaining in the first frame. The Ramblers took a 19-13 lead into the quarter break.

Northwestern cut into the Loyola deficit in the second quarter, shooting 7-for-8 from the free-throw line and outscoring the Ramblers 22-17 in the period to trim the LU lead to one before the half.

Loyola extended its lead to 42-36 with 6:55 to go in the third quarter before the Wildcats stormed back. NU outscored the Ramblers 17-2 over a 4:30 stretch to grab a 53-44 lead with 2:12 left in the third quarter. Taylor Williams and Grace Sullivan combined for 13 of NU's 17 points over that stretch. NU held a 58-50 advantage after three quarters, outscoring LU 23-14 in the third quarter. 

NU salted the game away at the defensive end of the floor, holding Loyola to just 23.8% shooting from the field (5-for-21) in the final frame to hold on for a 73-64 victory.
