‘Cats to host 11 home contests

EVANSTON, Ill. (September 27, 2023) – Set to begin her 26th season at the helm, Northwestern head women's tennis coach Claire Pollard unveiled the Wildcats' schedule for the 2023-24 season on Wednesday.  The 'Cats will compete in five events during the fall before kicking off the dual portion of their schedule in January.

Northwestern's fall slate features five tournaments, beginning with the Notre Dame Invitational (Sept. 29 – Oct. 1) and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships (Sept. 30 – Oct. 8).  The 'Cats will visit East Lansing, Mich. for the ITA Midwest Regional Championships, October 12-16, before wrapping up the fall at the ITA Fall National Championships (Nov. 1-5) and the Miami Fall Invitational (Nov. 3-5).

Pollard's crew will open its dual slate in The Sunshine State, taking on Florida Atlantic on January 15.  The 'Cats raise the curtain on their home schedule just five days later (Jan. 20), hosting Butler and Eastern Michigan in a doubleheader.  ITA Kickoff Weekend closes the month of January, with matchups against host Texas A&M (Jan. 27) and either Rice or TCU (Jan. 28) on the docket.

The road swing continues to begin February, as clashes against Georgia Tech (Feb. 4) and Vanderbilt (Feb. 11) bookend the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, February 9-12.  A February 16 date with Marshall opens a three-match homestand that also includes a doubleheader with Brown and Northern Illinois on February 18.  Northwestern is back on the road to end February, heading to Fayetteville, Ark. to meet Kansas (Feb. 24) and Arkansas (Feb. 25).

After closing non-conference play by hosting Memphis (March 1), Big Ten Conference action begins in mid-March when Rutgers (March 16) and Maryland (March 17) visit Evanston.  A three-match road swing follows, as the 'Cats take on Nebraska (March 22), Iowa (March 24), and Illinois (March 31).

April opens with a stretch that sees Northwestern play three of four matches in Evanston.  Wisconsin makes its way south on April 5 ahead of a trip to Minnesota (April 7) to close the weekend.  Matchups against Purdue (April 12) and Indiana (April 14) wrap up the home schedule, ahead of a road trip to Ohio State (April 19) and Penn State (April 21) on the final weekend of the regular season.

The University of Michigan will play host to the 2024 Big Ten Women's Tennis Championships, where the league's 14 teams will battle for the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.

Pollard is slated to welcome back six letterwinners from last season's team that finished fifth in the Big Ten.  That group is led by the duo of Maria Shusharina and Justine Leong, both of whom took home All-Big Ten honors in 2023-24.  The 'Cats are also slated to welcome four newcomers, including the experienced pairing of graduate transfers Britany Lau and Elisa Van Meeteren
