'Cats Sweep Top Six, Claim Team Title at Flyers Flames Challenge

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Northwestern swept the top six spots at the Flyers Flames Challenge on Friday evening, opening their 2023 season with a first-place team finish in Romeoville.

The 'Cats were led by first year Anna Delgado, who claimed the event's top spot with a time of 14:21.9. She highlighted a strong showing by the team's newcomers as a whole, with five of six first years competing and three of those five finishing in the top five. Ava Criniti finished second to Delgado with a time of 14:38.4 and Erin Boler finished fifth at 15:00.3.
Joining the first years in the top six were sophomore Maddy Whitman, who finished second, and graduate transfer Rachel Sessa, who finished sixth in her Northwestern debut.
The team title is the second straight season-opening victory for Northwestern after the Wildcats finished first in the NIU Huskie Challenge last September.
Northwestern will hit the trail again next Saturday in Madison as they take on conference foes at the Big Ten Preview.
