'Cats Finish Third at Big Ten Preview

MADISON, Wis. - In their second race of the season, the Wildcats placed three runners in the top ten and finished third as a team at the Badger Classic in Madison on Saturday. Coming off a first-place finish last week at the Flyers Flames Classic, the 'Cats ran a full squad of 20 in the event, which serves as a preview for the Big Ten Championships in November.

"Today's race helps us have clarity on the work we have to do before returning for the Championship in seven weeks," head coach Jill Miller said, "I'm excited by the grit we saw out there today and the willingness to race smart and tough. While we still have a lot of work to do, I love that the toughness piece of the puzzle is firmly solidified."
In her first event of the season, junior Ava Earl paced the Wildcats. Earl finished third overall with a time of 18:03.8. Also among the event's top ten were senior Kalea Bartolotto, who finished fifth, and junior Katherine Hessler in ninth.
Fresh off a first-place finish in Romeoville last week, first year Anna Delgado impressed again with a time of 18:30.8, which was good for 13th overall and second among all first years.
Northwestern will take next week off before returning to competition on September 23 in Charlottesville for the Virginia Invitational. The event, which takes place on the 2023 NCAA Championships course, features an array of the nation's top talent. Action from Charlottesville will begin at 7:00 a.m. CT, with specific race times to be announced later.
