Northwestern Ranked 18th in United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Northwestern debuted at No. 18 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll, its highest preseason ranking in program history.
Northwestern's appearance in the poll is its first appearance in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll since 2017 (No. 23). The Wildcats have been ranked in the United Soccer Coaches (formerly National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Preseason Poll three times (1999, 2017, 2023).
The 'Cats are one of three Big Ten teams to be ranked in the poll, joining Penn State at No. 10 and Michigan State at No. 17. Rutgers and Nebraska are both receiving votes.
Virginia Tech is also receiving votes in the poll. The Wildcats will travel to Blacksburg to square off with the Hokies on Sunday, September 10 at 12:30 p.m. CT.
Northwestern opens up its two-game exhibition slate with a trip to UIC on Sunday, August 6 at 4 p.m. CT. The Wildcats will begin the regular season at Marquette on Thursday, August 17 at 7 p.m. CT.
The 'Cats finished the 2022 season ranked No. 11 in the final poll of the season after advancing to the Third Round of the NCAA Tournament. NU matched program records with 16 wins and seven wins in Big Ten play.1??8??
