AZUSA, Calif. — The 'Cats ran against the nation's best in both the Mt. SAC Relays and the Bryan Clay Invitational as they continued outdoor competition in Southern California this week.
At the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays, Kalea Bartolotto and Ava Earl competed for the 'Cats. Starting off the round of competitions was Kalea Bartolotto in the 10,000m. Bartolotto ran a gritty race and crossed the line with a time of 34:36.57. Next to the track was Ava Earl in the women's 5,000m. Earl finished with a time of 16:19.34, placing her at number three in program history.
Next up was the Bryan Clay Invitational where the 'Cats ran against an action-packed field in the women's 5,000m. Battling her way to her fourth program record of the 2023 season, Rachel McCardell finished with a time of 15:50.78 in the event. Also making program history was second-year Anna Hightower. Hightower closed strong in her heat with a time of 16:22.92. The time places her at number five in program history and qualifies her to compete at the European U23 Championships. Other notable performances were freshman Mia Mraz and second-year Fiona Lenth. Mraz ran a tactically sound race and just dipped under the 17-minute barrier with a personal best time of 16:59.08. Lenth broke her personal record by 20 seconds in the event with a time of 17:03.64.
The 'Cats look forward to their next competition at the historic Drake Relays April 27th and 28th.
