Wang, Oishi named Honorable Mention All-Americans

DURHAM, N.C. (March 29, 2023) – A pair of Wildcats took home All-American honors as Northwestern fencing placed seventh amongst women's programs at the NCAA Fencing Championships this past weekend inside Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C.

The first-year pairing of Karen Wang and Megumi Oishi spearheaded the attack for the 'Cats, each finishing in the top 10 in their respective events.  Competing in the epee, Wang, the No. 14 seed, racked up a team-best 13 wins in pool action to surge to a ninth-place finish.  Oishi, who entered the weekend as the No. 12 seed in the sabre, secured 12 victories to ascend to tenth in the final individual standings.

For their efforts, both Wang and Oishi were honored as Honorable Mention All-Americans.

Returning to compete in her hometown, two-time All-American Sky Miller triumphed in nine pool bouts to land 18th in the sabre.  Anna Biasco, also a two-time All-American in her own right, wrapped up a decorated career at Northwestern by notching seven pool wins on her way to a 20th-place finish in the foil.

Northwestern will be idle until it returns to action at USA Fencing's April North American Cup (NAC) in St. Louis, Mo., April 21-24.
