Positively Dr. Gragg - March 2023

Wildcats,
While the official start of spring is just ten days away, what has transpired inside Welsh-Ryan Arena this winter is nothing short of remarkable. The smallest venue in the Big Ten Conference turned into one of the loudest, most engaged atmospheres anywhere in college basketball.
Apart from the obvious success of the team on the court and in the stands, including four consecutive sellouts to close the campaign, I am extremely proud of the way our department capitalized on the captive audience to benefit our other programs. We were able to celebrate our golf and cross country seniors – student-athletes who never have had a proper sendoff due to a lack of home events – in front of capacity crowds. We leveraged record interest from students to drive undergraduate attendance at other events in Welsh-Ryan and Ryan Fieldhouse.
The upcoming Big Ten and NCAA Men's Basketball Tournaments offer an unparalleled opportunity for our entire Northwestern community. We should never take for granted the impact our collective success has on the happiness and optimism of Wildcats everywhere. We all have long days, tough losses, and other setbacks, but never let those stop us from celebrating the wins and appreciating those around us.
Good luck to all of those competing this weekend and thank you to all of you working tirelessly to allow our student-athletes to pursue their dreams.
Positively,
Dr. Gragg
