Northwestern Drops Game Two 3-2 to Butler

3/20/2023 2:48:00 PM | Baseball

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- One run proved to be the difference in Northwestern's matchup against Butler on Monday, as the Wildcats lost a close one to the Bulldogs by a final score of 3-2.

Sam Garewal (0-2) started and took the loss on the mound for Northwestern (1-13). Drew Dickson was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going four shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking none and striking out five.

Senior Stephen Hrustich led the way offensively for the Wildcats, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with an RBI. Sophomore Alex Calarco put together a solid performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-4. Cooper Foard also contributed an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Butler tallied the first three runs of the ballgame, beginning with an RBI single in the bottom of the first. They added on two unearned runs in the fourth inning, giving the Bulldogs a 3-0 advantage. The Wildcats first put runs on the board in the sixth inning. Hrustich's run-scoring single and Foard's sacrifice fly made it a two-run inning for the 'Cats. The rally fell short, however, as Northwestern was unable to add on in the late innings.

GAME NOTES
» Northwestern pitchers faced 35 Butler hitters in the game, allowing seven ground balls and eight fly balls while striking out eight.
» Hrustich led the Wildcats at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
» Calarco has collected multiple hits in four of his last six and five of his last eight games.
» Garewal allowed only one earned run in 3.2 innings of work, making him the second straight Northwestern starter to limit opponents to one earned run.
